TERRA INCOGNITA

Description

YEAR 2024

TYPE OF WORK DOCUMENTAL

In old maps, when geography still meant adventure, it was common to find the inscription Terra incognita. These were unexplored territories, shrouded in mystery, waiting to be discovered by intrepid travelers. But today, what meaning does that expression hold? Everything seems to have been charted, photographed by satellites, and archived in Google Maps.

And yet, this is precisely where Terra incognita takes on a new meaning. We’re no longer speaking of unknown physical spaces, but of those forgotten by collective memory—places blurred by time and routine, corners of the city untouched by imagination, or if it ever reached them, it has long since faded.

This project is an exploration of those strange and hidden sites where forgetfulness dwells. Places that exist in the shadows of the everyday, waiting to be rediscovered before they vanish entirely. It is also a search for something more: perhaps a lost sense of tenderness, the echo of a fading youth, or the trace of a Barcelona that will never return. A city that, though still standing, is constantly transforming, leaving behind corners and memories that only those who lived them can truly recognize.

Because sometimes, the unknown isn’t what we’ve never seen but what we’ve stopped seeing without even realizing it.
